The First Harvest of Our New Cabernet Block

After waiting the standard three years for our new Cabernet Sauvignon vines in our newly redone lower section, we netted the vines to save the grapes from the predators and held a harvest with friends and family last weekend. The fruit was in great shape and many vines had a pretty good load for young vines. Of course, the yield was small even by mountain standards since the vines are still young and smallish. We got a little more than a third of a ton on the 1.1 acres. Hopefully, next year will continue the upward trend! In any case, the first harvest can prove to be a great vintage for Cabernet, with a lot of exposure and small berries.
