First Owl Box

Watch out gophers! The first of our owl boxes is now in place. Barn owl mating season is about to begin and we wanted to make sure we rolled out the carpet for at least one prospective owl family down in the new Cabernet block where the gophers have destroyed about 50 new vines. Jeff has been trying to trap the gophers and was losing that war. Owl boxes, which are becoming popular, are helping bring back the owls who are great hunters and can score multiple gophers and mice in a day (or, more correctly:

evening). We're so excited to get going on this project, which had gotten put off so long. We will continue reporting on it as the owls move in and if we can find a solar powered camera, we'll show what's going on inside.
