Remembering a Wine Club Member
Merrill Newman was one of our original wine club members. We'll remember him for his sweet and cheerful demeanor. He passed away last year and we only recently learned some about his life (the guy is in Wikipedia!). He was a veteran, which makes remembering him today on Memorial Day appropriate. Although you would never know it, he had some rather unusual turns in his life, including having a new specie of fish named after him, as well as being the center of international intrigue when at 85 years old, North Korea captured him as a POW. He and his wife Alice came to a wine talk I gave and I found them to be really interested in learning more about wine. Most importantly, they really liked Griffin Hill wines. Merrill passed away at 93 having really lived.
