Wiring My American Rotary 3-Phase Converter

If you find yourself assembling a new American Rotary AUX-10 Rotary converter, you may run into a frustrating roadblock when wiring the control box to the idler motor. In the instructions they say that you can't trust the wire colors and you should use the wire numbers. However, on mine, there were no wire numbers. Additionally, the manual was in black and white, so it was not possible to use the colors for the wiring when using the manual alone. After doing some research online, I felt fortunate to find the solution. In the photos, you can see that the three bunches of wires have unique colors to the three wires coming from the control box. I followed a photo i found (I think the source was American Rotary) and connected them by color. After doing the work I tested the assembly by attaching it and running my equipment, which seems to work perfectly (following a switch to two wires going to the plug to get the 3-phase lined up). The wires coming out of the motor are clumped into groups, which helps. Also, the higher voltage (the 480 vs. the 240 I was working with are ignored and tied off). Don't forget to wrap everything in electricians tape and to complete the ground wire attachment!

Good luck!

What I determined was the correct wiring from the American Rotary AUX-10 control box to the idler motor.
